It is with tremendous pride and very grateful hearts that we celebrate the 25th anniversary of Magpies Gifts this year. Wow, what an amazing, exhausting, exciting, back breaking, and blessed journey this “little shop” has been for so many in our immediate family as well as our extended Magpie family...

It all began in November of 1983, when two sisters Maggie Keirnan Farrar and Lexie Keirnan Ofczarzak, boldly set out to fulfill a dream of opening a little shop that offered old fashioned charm and warmth. Inspired by their love of quilts and their unique talent of transforming the usual into something beautiful, they opened Magpies Gifts at 906 Oakley, located in the heart of Houston’s Montrose area. It was a gentle start to something that would someday be much bigger than they ever really dreamed.

Who would have thought that the humble beginnings of Magpies Gifts would eventually evolve into a family business involving a mom, a daughter and nieces, nieces, and more nieces in 2008! After the shop on Oakley, there would be three moves in Bellaire, ending with the current location at 5000 Bellaire Blvd.

Cousins Megan Farrar Beauchamp and Sarah Biles McMeans took that same leap of faith that Maggie and Lexie took in 1983, and they opened a new Magpies at 4837 Sweetwater Boulevard in Sugar Land, Texas in 1998.With God’s guidance, loyal customers, Megan’s love of buying and Sarah’s business sense, Magpies on Sweetwater took root and has been growing ever since.

After much prayer and discernment, Magpies Gifts moved to the current location at 5000 Bellaire. Magpies in Bellaire now has 3500 square feet, and emulates the warmth and charm that has been a mainstay in the Magpies legacy. Cousins Patti Biles Michalek (niece of Maggie and Lexie) and her sister Chrissy Biles Hignett (another niece) joined Maggie at the helm of the Bellaire location. Patti and Chrissy are also integral parts of the familial ownership and circle of strength that allows this business to succeed. Though Lexie has since retired, and Sarah has taken a little break, Magpies continues to grow and attract customers who are looking for just the right gift, in a perfectly comfortable venue in which to shop.

For us, Magpies Gifts has been and continues to be so much more than a business. It’s been a realization of a dream through which we have all met and have come to know so many wonderful people who have most certainly enriched our lives. Many of those wonderful people are our employees, whose tireless efforts help us to keep the dream alive. We have been blessed and encouraged by customers who would soon become friends, and it is our hope that there have been days that we were able to offer a bit of solace or comfort to some of the people who had chosen to walk through the doors of Magpies.
