Who would have thought 31 years ago that two entrepreneurial sisters’ vision and passion would grow into the family legacy known as Magpies Gifts today? What began as a dream, a small business loan and a whole lot of work from Maggie Farrar, Alexis Ofczarzak and their supportive husbands is now a beautiful, growing family business!

It was 1983 when sisters Maggie and “Lexie” set up shop at 906 Oakley, a charming old four-plex located in Houston’s Museum District. With many of their own handmade creations, quilts, antiques and delightful market finds, Magpies Gifts soon became that special little place to find unique gifts and treasures for the home. As time progressed and their customer base grew, the shop relocated to Bellaire, where they added beautiful accessories, home décor and other items that spoke to their unique sense of style. Thus, it was the start of the store you love today.

The name isn’t just a nod to Maggie, but also the bird itself. According to folklore, the magpie taught the other birds how to build nests and is known for incorporating shiny, pretty details into its home. Now with locations in Bellaire, Cypress and Sugar Land, and with a daughter and nieces stepping in to continue the shop’s legacy, Magpies Gifts is proud to offer customers those special details you can’t find anywhere else. At Magpies, every time’s a charm.

Tips on Jewelry Care

Alex and Ani jewelry

Clean with a mild soap, water and soft cloth. Rinse with clean water and pat dry. Never use jewelry cleaner on Trend pieces, as cleaners are too harsh and might contain abrasives. Use a polishing cloth on Precious pieces.

Brighton jewelry

Wipe down pieces with a dry 100% cotton cloth to remove impurities. To maintain your lacquer finish and avoid tarnishing, keep jewelry away from water, jewelry cleaners, silver cleaners, treated polishing cloths, perfumes, hairspray, lotions, hand sanitizers and makeup. Tuck your jewelry away when you are not wearing it.

Kendra Scott jewelry

Remove jewelry before washing your hands, swimming, exercising, cleaning or applying personal body products. To maintain your jewelry’s shine, avoid contact with soaks, perfumes, lotions, makeup, hair products, cleaning products and the like.

Pandora jewelry

Pour a small amount of mild soap into lukewarm water and clean jewelry using a small, soft toothbrush. If dirt proves difficult to remove, soak the jewelry in clean water. This method should not be used to clean cultured freshwater pearls.

Use a silver-polishing cloth to make your silver pieces shine. Remember that this will not remove scratches.

Waxing Poetic jewelry

Sterling Silver, Brass and Bronze pieces

These metals tarnish with time, but their shines can be easily restored. Avoid wearing jewelry in the shower, hot tub, sauna, ocean and swimming pool. Apply perfumes and hairspray before putting on jewelry.

Pearls, Stones and Crystals

These elements are fragile and require extra care. Wipe your jewelry with a soft, lint-free cloth — not a polishing cloth — when you take it off. If the pearls, stones or crystals become dull, gently pat them clean with a damp cloth and lay flat to dry. Avoid using chemicals and cleaners.

Plated Metal

Wipe jewelry lightly with a soft jewelry-polishing cloth to restore shine and keep dirt and dust from wearing away the plated layer. Avoid polishing plated pieces more often than necessary. The more you polish it, the faster the plating wears away.
