Who would have thought more than 40 years ago that two entrepreneurial sisters’ vision and passion would grow into a thriving family legacy? Magpies Gifts, the Houston gift shop you know and love today, got its start as a dream, a small business loan and a whole lot of work by Maggie Farrar, Alexis Ofczarzak and their supportive husbands.

It was 1983 when sisters Maggie and “Lexie” set up shop at 906 Oakley, a charming old four-plex in Houston’s Museum District. With its selection of handmade creations, quilts, antiques and fun market finds, Magpies Gifts soon became that special little place to find unique gifts and treasures. As time progressed and their customer base grew, the shop relocated to Bellaire, where they added accessories, home décor and other items that spoke to their unique sense of style.

The gift store’s name isn’t just a nod to Maggie, but also the bird itself. According to folklore, the magpie taught the other birds how to build nests and is known for incorporating shiny, pretty details into its home. With locations in Bellaire and Sugar Land — in addition to online shopping — we are proud to continue the Magpies legacy with treasured friends and customers nationwide.
