Company Takes Part in Roma Boots Boot Drop
HOUSTON – September 5, 2014 – Magpies Gifts joined forces with Roma Boots founder Samuel Bistrian to make a difference to children in Guatemala. Megan Beauchamp, Magpies co-owner, and her husband, Brad, took part in a Boot Drop. With boxes of colorful boots in tow, they handed the footwear out to children in San Pedro and San Juan.
The gifts, which ensure their small recipients have warm, protective shoes going in to the colder months, are part of the Roma business plan. For every pair of boots sold, Roma donates a new pair to a child in need. The company also donates 10 percent of proceeds to the Roma for All Foundation, which encourages education and strives to help children break out of poverty.
“I just admire people who see a need and actually do what they can to fulfill it,” Beauchamp said. “Samuel is giving out boots and opening schools. He wants to be a beacon of hope, and if we can do something to help, we want to.”
Dallas-based Roma Boots got its start when Bistrian set out to help children in his home country of Romania. Having known poverty himself growing up, he understood the impact a good pair of shoes could have on a child’s well-being and general outlook on life. Now, after Boot Drops in cities from Moore, Okla. to Transylvania, he said it feels good to know he’s giving back.
“Each Boot Drop is a unique experience. Every one is different, but they’re all so rewarding,” he said. “To see these children’s faces light up, and to know that you played a role in making that happen, it’s indescribable.”
Beauchamp called the Boot Drop a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and said she took away just as much as the children did.
“I feel so blessed to be a part of something that is doing so much good for so many people,” she said. “We’ve carried Roma Boots in our stores because they go toward a higher cause and we want to be a part of their mission.”
